The VIA3 solution is built on a security platform that uses NIST-accredited Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) encryption—providing end-to-end security and multiple layers of protection. VIA3 is also FIPS 140-2 Level 1 and JITC DCTS certified.

Operational Overview

To participate in a multimedia session, all participants must have Verizon Business IP multimedia components loaded onto certified CPE. Each VIA3 user is given a unique public-private key pair that is used by VIA3 to verify that he/she is the intended recipient—before providing the user with the unique code to securely decrypt a message.

Multimedia participants navigate and interact from a main meeting manager screen. From this main location participants can participate in and receive live video and audio, manage documents in real time, create white boards, and send instant messages to other participants.

An end user can send an invitation to another user. The receiving end user can either accept or decline the invitation. Upon acceptance, a notification is sent to the initiator and each party has the option to add the other to their contact list.

VIA3 incorporates presence detection to enable users to see whether his/her co-workers and/or members of a community of interest are present and available, away from their desk, offline, not to be disturbed or in a meeting. This allows the user to easily communicate via an instant message or start an online meeting complete with real-time audio and video.

When using VIA3 IM, users are just a single click away from a completely secure online communication session with real-time audio, video, and data sharing capabilities. Additionally, users can save their IM conversations for future reference.

Access is protected at all times and VIA3 does not send user’s password across the Internet (as is the case with other IM products). VIA3 manages all security components for users in a transparent, seamless manner.

As a security enhancement, VIA3 encrypts the message on the user’s computer, transmits an unintelligible combination of symbols, and then decrypts the information at the intended recipient’s computer. This method ensures that only the intended recipient sees the information, and that all communications between users remain private. To ensure privacy, the user can determine who is added to a contact list and who can contact or see him/her online. This is achieved by requesting and granting permission from/to other users, respectively.
